A preview at Gnadenhutten's spacious gymnasium Saturday evening will get the 1957-1958 basketball season underway, it was decided when the Tuscarawas County Coaches Association met last night at Gnadenhutten. With Pete Hilliard of Midvale, the Association president, in charge of the meeting, the court mentors discussed the new rules and regulations and then heard officials Allan Viegel of Dover and Jordan Besozzi of Uhrichsville explain the recent changes. Members of Coach Dick Scott's Gnadenhutten cage squad were used for demonstration purposes as Viegel and Besozzi, both of whom have officiated in several state tournaments, answered questions. Saturday's preview will include five teams from Tuscarawas County and Walnut Creek's Cardinals from neighboring Holmes County, according to Ed McGlumphy of Stone Creek, the Association vice president. Starting at 7:30PM the Sugarcreek Pirates will tangle with the Port Washington Purple Riders. The middle game sends Baltic against Stone Creek and the host Gnadenhutten will meet Walnut Creek in the nightcap. Admission will be 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for students, with all proceeds being distributed among the competing teams for athletic expenses. The three abbreviated games will consist of two six-minute halves.
