The first Tuscarawas County Coaches Association basketball preview at Gnadenhutten Saturday night was considered a great success as 700 jammed the gymnasium. The Baltic Eagles emerged with a 23-17 win over Stone Creek. Sugarcreek's Pirates came through in fine style to down Port Washington 26-12 and Gnadenhutten decisioned Walnut Creek 23-11 in the 12-minute games. Koran Zehnder led Sugarcreek with eight points on four field goals. Baltic, with an all-veteran squad, was led by Ronald Huprich who potted three field goals for six points. Rod Reinhart led Stone Creek with nine points on four field goals and a foul. The Baltic Eagles, who return to cage action tonight in their first regular season contest with Nashville on the Baltic court, will have a team bolstered by seven lettermen. Back from a squad which posted a record of 14 wins in 23 games last season will be seniors Ron Huprich, Larry Ladrach, Gary Berger and Pete Mutschelknaus, junior Sam Jacobs and sophomores John Rice and Gary Gerber. The Eagles coach, Jack Bellville, returns for his third year. His charges will return to the hardcourt Friday night when they meet the Sugarcreek Pirates, coached by Jim Stull.
