MIDVALE - Despite playing without two regulars and with the starting array in action less than three quarters, the Midvale Blue Devils (6-2) trampled the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-8) in a non-league skirmish at Midvale last night. The output tied the Midvale school scoring record established 20 years ago when a Blue Devil quintet featuring Frankie Baumholtz blasted Stone Creek 105-9. It marked the fourth straight win for Coach Pete Hilliard's defending regional champions. Port Washington hit its highest single game point total of the season. Sophomore Ron Breniser started his first game for the Blue Devils and scored 21 points in the first half to finish with 26 and runner-up laurels behind Russ Hobart, the lone senior on the Midvale squad, who rattled the rims for 35 points. Both left the game along with the remainder of the starting array with three minutes remaining in the third period. Tom Krocker hit 12 points and Don Hanlon added 11 to the winning effort, while Bill Phillips led Port Washington with 17, Don Ferrell scored 13 and LeRoy Davies netted 11. Regulars Gary Carrothers of Midvale was not present because of illness, while Dave Belknap missed the contest because of disciplinary action. In the Reserve game, Midvale knocked off Port Washington (1-7) 51-24. No Graders game.
