PORT WASHINGTON - Port Washington (1-13) had four players in double figures, but the Purple Riders waited too long before making their bid for their first league victory and as a result, slipped into the cellar. The Riders were ahead 14-13 after one quarter and led for part of the second stanza before Tuscarawas (6-6) took over and retained the lead the remainder of the way, copping a 38-27 half-time edge and a 64-38 margin at the last break. In the closing period, the Purple Riders outscored the Broncos 25-16, but the deficit was too great and they dropped their 13th decision. Gary Caviness of Tuscarawas topped the scoring with 24 points with teammates Tom Vesco and Dick Robinson close behind with 21 each. Ron and Bill Phillips and John Landon each hit 16 and Tom Gardner had 10 for Port Washington. The Tuscarawas Reserves tied up the Port Washington Reserves (1-13) 53-22. In the initial Graders game, Port Washington (3-5) buried Tuscarawas 55-22.
