Falling behind by six points the opening eight minutes, Port Washington (4-4) (11-6) never could quite catch the Strasburg Tigers (8-0) (16-1) although coming within two points on several occasions. With their rebounding power weakened with Nick Frank playing despite a touch of the virus, Coach Jim Pfeiffer's Purple Riders were outscored 17-11 the first period by the terrific Tigers. Although coming back for 12 points to 10 for the defending county champs the second frame, the Riders trailed 27-23 at half time. After being on the short end of a 40-36 count at the far turn, Port Washington crept to within two points, 49-47 midway in the final frame before Coach Chuck Caniford's Bengals spurted to salt away the game. Four of the five Tigers who played the entire distance tallied in double figures with Jerry Froman leading the way with 18 points. George Gessner was runnerup with 14. Ed Bates and Denver Glazer each hit for 19 points for the Riders to share scoring honors for the contest. A total of 28 fouls were called, 16 against the losers. Port Washington made 11 of 18 free throws, Strasburg sank 10 of 21. The Strasburg Reserves completed the swept by beating the Port Washington Reserves (5-9) 39-32.
