Jerry M. Baird, 51, superintendent of Port Washington schools for 12 years, presented his resignation to the board of education there last night and will take a position as superintendent of Junction City-Jackson local school district on August 1. The Junction City district is about twice as large as the Port Washington district and Mr. Baird will receive a considerable increase in salary. Jerry Baird has spent a total of 18 years at Port Washington. He began teaching there in 1937 and went to Gnadenhutten schools in 1942 for two years as a science teacher. He returned to Port in 1944 and taught one year before becoming superintendent. During his service, Washington Township has been consolidated into the Port District and a new township school was erected. Mr. and Mrs. Baird will move to Junction City in the near future. They have two children, Mrs. Robert Gaynor and Dean Baird, both of New Philadelphia. Mrs. Baird is a former Republican member of the Board of Elections. No action has been taken by the Port board toward naming Mr. Baird's successor.
