The four teams that finished in the first four spots in the Tuscarawas County Class A Basketball League after regular season play have worked their way into semi-final berths. The Stone Creek Panthers (17-4) "clawed" out a thrilling 70-67 victory over the defending champion Midvale Blue Devils (11-9) as Ronnie Delbel set a new scoring mark for the winners and the Tuscasrawas Valley Trojans (16-4) spanked Port Washington (12-8) 88-63 to complete the semi teams. Stone Creek will take on the league champion Strasburg Tigers (18-1) and Tuscarawas Valley squares off with Gnadenhutten (18-3) next Thursday evening at Memorial Hall. Gnadenhutten and Stone Creek ended the regular season tied for second spot with 7-2 marks, while the Trojans took fourth with a 6-3 mark. Strasburg was undefeated in nine games. In the Consolation game last night the Baltic Eagles (14-8) hammered out a 78-66 verdict over a stubborn Sugarcreek (10-12) team to set the stage for two consy clashes Saturday night. Tuscarawas (2-18) will open action Saturday evening when it battles Midvale, the team that defeated them in the opening of the tournament, and Baltic takes on Port Washington.
