Port Washington (13-8) displayed plenty of power as they eliminated a much smaller, but just as game Baltic (14-9) squad from the tournament. Ed Bates set a steaming pace as he connected for 16 points in the first quarter to give the Riders a 28-19 lead and then added 12 more in the second stanza to pace the winners to a 44-35 margin at intermission. While Baltic could hit for only 11 points, the Riders chalked up 27 points in the third period with Ed Bates getting eight and romped to a big 71-46 lead going into the final canto. The Riders added 35 more points in the final frame as Ed Bates again picked up 14 points, while Baltic scored 28 and the Riders rode to the victory. Baltic, one of the youngest teams in the county, had a freshman, sophomore, two juniors and a senior on the starting array. All five of the starters hit in double figures with Ron Huprich leading the way with 17 and Freshman John Rice adding 16. Sam Jacobs with 14, Larry Ladrach 13 and Glen Reidenbach 10 rounded out the Eagles scoring. Denver Glazer followed Ed Bates in scoring for Port with 20 points, while Nick Frank had 16 and Jerry Hannahs 15.
