Baltic Edges Stone Creek 4-1; Four Games In County Tonight (4-16-57)

Three more games are booked for the Class A County Baseball Tournament tonight which will decide semi-finalists for the event. Last night the Baltic Eagles (1-0), behind the fine two-hit pitching of Glen Reidenbach, defeated the Stone Creek Panthers (0-1) 4-1. Tonight the Eagles will take on Tuscarawas (0-0) in upper bracket play with the winner advancing into the semi-finals. Dundee (0-0) will play Port Washington (0-0) in the other upper bracket game, while in lower bracket action Midvale's Blue Devils (0-0) meet Strasburg (1-0) with the winner meeting Gnadenhutten (1-0) in the semi-finals. Semi-final games are slated for April 22 and finals April 25. John Rice smashed out a triple, driving in two runs in the first inning yesterday at the Sugarcreek Park field to give the Eagles the edge in the first Inning. Stone Creek opened with a single run in the first when Harold Baker smacked out a double driving in one run. After the Eagles had collected three runs in the first they added one more in the third. From there on in the two pitchers, Mel McAfee for the Panthers and Glen Reidenbach for the Eagles, hurled spotless ball. Reidenbach struck out 12 men, while walking eight and giving up only two hits, one to Baker and the other to Ronnie Deibel. McAfee fanned only two batters, but didn't walk a single man. He was tagged for five safeties, including another triple by Joanas Miller in the third.
