Drawings for the 35th Annual Tuscarawas County Class A Basketball Tournament will be held at 9AM, Monday at the offices of County Supt. W.E. Laws, located in the former Children's Home on South Tuscarawas Avenue in Dover. The tournament once again is slated for Dover's Memorial Hall beginning Monday, February 11, and will conclude Saturday, February 23, after seven nights of action. Supt. Laws will be tourney manager. The top four teams in the county league standings after tonight's games will be seeded with the champion and runner-up placed in opposite brackets. Strasburg appears to have the county crown wrapped up for the fifth consecutive year and will be assured of the number one spot. Stone Creek and Gnadenhutten are almost certain to be other seeded quintets, while the fourth position will go to either Baltic, Tuscarawas Valley or Port Washington, depending on the outcome of tonight's contests. Following two games February 11, three more are slated each night on February 13 and 14, followed by two clashes February 16. Two games each night are then slated for February 21, 22 and then the tourney champion runner-up and consolation titlist will be decided on February 23 with two games. The three mentioned above will advance to the sectional playoffs also held at Memorial Hall. Nine referees, selected by a poll of particpating coaches, have been obtained to officiate the tournament. They include Allen Veigel of Dover, Ed Smith of Strasburg, Glen Zimmerman of Sugarcreek, Jim Morgam of New Philadelphia, Jordan Besozzi of Uhrichsville, Frank Cox of Roswell, Jim Galbraith of Jewett, Max Kister of Shreve and Charles McElhaney of Newcomerstown.
