The Port Washington Purple Riders (1-3) basketball team finally broke the ice after losing its first three outings as they downed Uhrichsville at the Tiger gym Saturday night. The Riders lost their first three games by close margins, but finally jelled as the roundballers of Coach Jim Pfeiffer settled down and won the game at the foul circle. Both teams hit for 24 field goals, but the Riders took advantage of 50 foul attempts and made good on 27 of them. Port jumped to an early 24-12 first quarter lead and held a 41-27 advantage at half time. The young Tiger squad finally started hitting though and narrowed the third period Port lead to 51-46. But the Tiger scoring spree was short-lived as the Riders poured through 24 points the final stanza, while holding Uhrichsville to a mere five markers. Tom Lukens paced the Tigers and was tops for the evening with 22 points, while Junior Fanti added 13 points for the losers. Port had four men in double figures as Ed Bates and Denver Glaser each had 20, Nick Frank netted 15 and Jim Emler scored 14.
