With Ed Bates scorching the nets for 32 points, the Port Washington Purple Riders (2-3) easily turned back the Scarlet scourge of Lafferty last night at Port Washington. Coach Jim Pfeiffer's Riders had little difficulty chalking up their second straight victory after droping their first three contests. After leading by 23-12 after one one period, the victors posted margins of 41-24 and 57-42 at the end of the second and third periods. Following Ed Bates in the scoring column for Port Washington was Denver Glazer with 21, while Nick Frank added 15. Lafferty was topped by Chuck Gillam with 26, while Jim Springetti had 17. The Port Washington Reserves (2-1) made it a sweep by beating the Lafferty Reserves 35-21.
