Port Washington Loses 2nd Outing To Killbuck 70-69 (11-28-56)

The Port Washington Purple Riders (0-2), touted to be one of the big guns in the county league, had their first victory snatched from their clutches last night by Killbuck (1-0) at Killbuck's home court. The Riders took a commanding 26-16 first quarter lead, but had it whittled to a 43-40 margin by half time. At the end of the third stanza they were trailing 57-51 as the Port cagers failed to connect from the field. Battling down to the last minute the Riders roared back, but their final drive failed as the clock ran out. Denver Glazer racked up 20 points, while Ed Bates scored 19 to pace Port, but individual efforts by Sturgeon who scored 23, Glassford who sank 17 and Purdy who potted 13 nullified the two big guns for the Riders. Only five men saw action for Killbuck in the victory as Tidball scored nine and Taylor netted eight to round out the winners scoring. Port previously dropped a 70-62 decision to the Stone Creek Panthers. The Killbuck Reserves (1-0) copped a 36-22 victory over Port's Reserves (0-1).
