59 - Clubs Equal Or Better '58 Mark (2-24-59)

Regular-season activity on the Tuscarawas County scholastic basketball front is completed, and some of the Class "A" schools already have been eliminated from tourney play. But in looking back over the 1958-1959 campaign, and comparing it with results attained a year ago, considerable improvement was recorded. Five schools registered better season marks during the recent campaign, three skidded to poorer standings and one duplicated their 1957-1958 accomplishments. The best improvement coming from last year's marks were Midvale 16-1 (16-2 in 1957-1958), Tuscarawas Valley 17-1 (11-5), Garaway 12-8 (10-10), Port Washington 3-16 (1-16) and Tuscarawas 6-11 (5-12). Among those who didn't equal or better last year's records were Gnadenhutten 13-6 (15-5), Baltic 10-10 (13-7) and Strasburg 6-12 (11-7). Stone Creek (12-8) had a similar mark a year ago.

Tusky Valley and Midvale showed the way record-wise in Class "A" and the Blue Devils' 72.8 offensive display was tops. Tuscarawas Valley was the top defender at 48.5. Ron Bradley of Gnadenhutten had 501 points to top the Class "A" ranks in scoring. Bradley finished the campaign with 534 points.
