The stage was set today - one day early - for the finals of the Tuscarawas County Baseball Tournament. Garaway and Tuscarawas gained the big game and automatic trips to the Sectional Tournament, slated for Sugarcreek April 28-30, yesterday afternoon. The Pirates toppled Tuscarawas Valley 13-12, while Tuscarawas waltzed past Strasburg 8-1.

Despite the 25 runs scored in the Garaway-Tusky Valley contest, only one pitcher toiled for each squad. Charles Stingel handled the duties for the victors, whiffing eight and walking four, while Chuck Locker was on the mound for the losers. He struck out five and gave three free passes. A big second inning by the Pirates, in which they scored nine runs, put them on top for keeps. They had opened with four in the first. Garaway put together doubles by Dale Bleininger and Larry Yakley, a walk and singles by Gary Kohler, Bob Raber and Bud Yakley for its big second frame. Tusky Valley committed three errors and the winners two. Tuscarawas-Strasburg game not reported.
