Tuscarawas County's hopes for Ohio scholastic Class "A" Basketball honors now rest squarely on the shoulders of the terrific Midvale Blue Devils. The Blue Devils are favored to take another step along the tournament trail tonight at 8 when they meet Holmes County's Killbuck in the windup of the Sectional Tournament in Memorial Hall. The Devils won a District championship two years ago and then went on to cop the Canton Regional Crown and a berth in the State Tournament at Columbus. But they will have to be at their very best to stop the Bucks, who were runner-ups to Hiland in both Holmes County Class "A" League and Tournament play. The Bucks are not as big as Midvale, but have speed to burn. Coupled with their usual accurate shooting, they will provide formidable opposition for the Devils. Midvale has the edge in point production, having averaged 72.3 points per contest, while Killbuck has compiled a 58.5 mark over 21 contests. However, the Bucks have shined on defense, limiting their opposition to an even 48 points a contest. Midvale's mark is 58.5. Midvale swept through Tuscarawas County Class "A" League action and had little trouble in wrapping up top laurels in the 37th Annual County Tournament last week. The Devils carry the best record into tournament warfare, having won 19 - including 13 in a row - while losing only one. Killbuck has emerged victorious in 17 of 21 outings. Killbuck has two outstanding performers in forward Jerry Allison (6-0) and center Tom Taylor (6-2). The two hit with uncanny accuracy from anywhere on the court. Allison leads the team in scoring with 340 points and Taylor has 310. Other Killbuck starters are expected to be Roger McDowell (6-0) at the other forward spot and Gary Croskey (5-8) and Dave Christopher (5-8) at the guards. Midvale's starting lineup is a potent one. Forwards are expected to be Ron Breniser and Tom Krocker, while Bill Housel will be at center and Hanes Hairston and Dave Belknap at the guards. Breniser enters the conflict with 403 points for the season, Housel and Belknap have caged 244 each, Hairston 232 and Krocker 161.
