The Cards are on the table for two Tuscarawas and two Holmes County schoolboy cage quintets. And the stakes are trips to next week's District event slated in Memorial Hall. Tonight, another episode in the tournament "gamble" takes place here when Tuscarawas Valley clashes with Holmes kingpins Hiland at 8. The final chapter of this year's Class "A" Sectional eliminations will be written tomorrow night. Midvale, concluding a 2-year rule of Tuscarawas County Class "A" League and Tournament play takes on Killbuck, the second-rated Holmes County quintet, at 8.

Hiland has rolled past 19 opponents, while losing only twice. Its initial loss was to defending state Class "A" Champion Northwestern and the second was to Class "AA" Waynedale. The Hawks, formed this season by the consolidation of Walnut Creek and Berlin, have met and conquered four Tuscarawas County foes. Victories have been over Baltic 73-59, Garaway 48-40 and 69-27, Strasburg 57-55 and Port Washington 75-35. In racking up their victory total, the Hawks have poured in 1479 points, while limiting the opposition to 963. Not a tall team, they have combined outside shooting, an accurate eye for the hoop and plenty of speed to form a formidable combination. With the consolidation, Hiland Coach Bob Schrock was blessed with a total of 11 lettermen. And if the going gets rough he doesn't hesitate to start platooning them. Exhibiting balanced scoring four of the Hawk starters have eclipsed the 200-point mark. Stan Yoder (5-9) leads the way with 304 points, while Stan Gerber (6-2) follows with 279. Gene Gerber (6-0) is third with 243, while Dale Wurthman (5-9) has tallied 225. Bob Weaver (6-2), the Hawks fifth starter, has 82. Other lettermen on the squad are Bob Miller, Mark Menuez, Glen Miller, Linus Miller, Terry Hershberger and Jeffrey Schrock.

Tuscarawas Valley, which was runner-up to Midvale in both league and tournament play, will be seeking to discard its bridesmaid role. Coach Bob Heller is expected to start Ben Price and Roy Buchanan at forwards, Jim Studer at center and Clarence Cantrill and Ron Lake at the guards. That group started and did extremely well in Tusky Valley's 62-42 victory over Dennison St. Mary's Tuesday night. The Trojans have a 19-2 mark for the season.
