Hiland and Gnadenhutten were victorious last night in the annual basketball preview staged at the Gnaden gym. Hiland eeked out a sudden-death victory over the Stone Creek Panthers 18-16, while the host club dropped Port Washington 27-15. The Gnadenhutten Reserve squad also notched its first win when it routed the Purple Riders 28-11. With the score tied at 11-all at the end of the first period, Hiland moved ahead 15-11 shortly after the first overtime period began, but the Panthers rallied to tie the contest again, this time at 15-all. Only one point was scored by each club in the second overtime as the score was locked at 16-all. However, Bob Weaver iced the victory for the newly Hiland Hawks when he made the decisive bucket from the corner. Bob Miller led the Hawks scoring, while Terry Sauder, Don Wherley and Paul Patrick all had four points for Stone Creek. Ron Bradley paced the Indians to their victory when he ripped the nets for 12 points. John Hall followed with 6 markers, while Jim Bender led Port with four points. The host club ran off to a 13-2 halftime lead and Coach Bob Gaume substituted freely. Ed Crites led the Gnaden Reserves with 10 points, while Tony Nigro led Port's Reserve Team with eight.
