Garaway High's leading scorer, center Charley Stingel, sat most of the last period with a sprained ankle, but was in the lineup long enough to pace the Pirates (1-1) (3-2) to their victory over Port Washington (0-3) (0-4). Stingel took the night's honors with 22 points, although he was pulled out of the contest in the final quarter by Coach Jim Stull when someone accidentally stepped on his foot. Stull said it was nothing serious; however, he should be back in the lineup by next Tuesday. Stingel was given plenty assistance in the scoring column as Koran Zehnder potted 20 points, John Sigrist added 13 and Bud Yakley had 10. Diminutive Bill Phillips led the Riders of Coach Tom Davies with 17 points, while Jim Bender tallied 10. The seniorless Purple Riders were deadlocked with the Pirates at 15-all when the first buzzer sounded, but the Garaway invaders moved out to a 39-23 halftime advantage and then raced on for the win. The Port Washington Graders (1-0) got the night off with a 27-20 win over the Garaway Graders. The Garaway Reserves followed by crushing the Port Washington Reserves (1-3) 63-31.
