67 - Rivalry Between Port Washington And Tuscarawas Continues Friday Night








PORT WASHINGTON - An old and bitter rivalry will be resumed Friday night when the Purple Riders entertain the Tuscarawas Broncos.  Tuscarawas will attempt to bounce back from its 1st defeat of the year, suffered at Malvern Saturday, 52-51.  The Broncos  haven't had an easy time on the road, nipping Jewett in overtime in their other away game.  Other wins have come at home, over Midvale, 49-41 and Gnadenhutten 81-70.  The Purple Riders are 2-2, having beaten Zane Trace 40-35 and Newcomerstown 68-67.  Losses have been to powerful Madison of Guernsey County, 67-52 and ConottonValley 61-60.

1st-year Head Coach Joe Lopez of the Purple Riders considers the Broncos a formable foe and reports that he was pleased with Port Washington's performance against Conotton Valley Saturday.  He pointed out that only 7 turnovers were committed.  He noted that 2 starters had fouled out which contributed heavily to the defeat.  The starting array for the Riders will be:

Senior Tim Page 6-0 Forward
Senior Jim Hagan 6-0 Center
Senior Jerry Stephens 5-8 Guard
Senior Greg Bender 5-8 Guard
Sophomore Jeff Huston 6-1 Forward

Also  expected to see action at guard will be 5-8 Junior Mike Peepers.  Page is leading the locals  in rebounds,  while  scoringis evenly matched with Page, Stephens and Bender leading a balanced attack.

The Broncos are led by Brent Lehigh who leads in both rebounding and scoring.  Other starters are:
