67 - Conotton Valley Nips Port Washington 61-60 (12-3-66)







PORT WASHINGTON - Conotton Valley (2-1), behind as much as 10-1 in the 1st quarter and 20-8 at the 1st stop pulled a victory over Port Washington (2-2) out of the fire Saturday night.  When the Rockets fell behind 1st year Head Coach Allan Kennedy changed his defense as a remedial measure and it worked.  The Rockets trimmed the Rider margin to 27-24 at half-time and deadlocked the score 42-42 at the end of the 3rd period.

Ken Beamer led the winners with 24 points and Fred Strawser and Mike Risley scored 13 apiece.  Tops for Port was Tim Page's 19.  Greg Bender added 15 and Jeff Huston 11.  Port Washington made 26 of 60 field goal attempts for 40 percent and 10 of 13 foul shots.  The Rockets hit 20 times in 55 floor tries for 38 percent and 21 of 36 charity tosses.  The Riders lost both Page and Huston on fouls.  Port entertains Tuscarawas Friday night and travels to Gnadenhutten Saturday.  Conotton Valley hosts Lakeland Friday and is at Cadiz on Saturday. 

The Conotton Valley Reserves beat out the Port Washington Reserves (2-2) 30-23.
