67 - On The Court With The Tuscarawas Broncos

TUSCARAWAS - First-year Head Coach Lyle Matlick of Tuscarawas,  with some potentially fine material at hand, is looking forward to the 1966-67 campaign.  Four lettermen answered the 1st call as the Broncos launched preparations for their November 25th opener against the Midvale Blue Devils in a non-league encounter at Tuscarawas.  Only 2 of these are Seniors, 6-2 John Bahari, who lpumped in 352 points a year ago and 5-8 guard Jim McCauley.  He tallied 111 points during the 1966-67 season.  The other guard spot likely will be filled by Butch Reed, a 5-8 Junior, who scored 58 points as a Sophomore.  Bihari, possessor of a fine shooting eye and a demon on the backboards, will be backed at center by Matt Cox, a 6-foot Junior.  Four Sophomores are expected to see plenty of action with the varsity unit.  They are:

 Les Donahue 5-10
Bernie McCauley 5-9
Billy Goshorn 5-10
Eddie Smith 5-8

Coach Matlick, while making his maiden voyage as a head coach, is no stranger to the Tuscarawas County Class A League.  He served under Pete Hilliard at Midvale for a number of seasons and knows the fierce competition featured in the league.  Matlick says last year's Broncos scored well enough so he's stressing the need to concentrate on defense.  Matlick also will handle his own Reserve Team and lists the following candidates:

Junior John Basilletti 5-10
Freshman Joe Bihari 5-10
Freshman Phil Simmons 5-10
Freshman Steve Porter 5-7
Freshman Joe Donahue 5-6
Freshman Don Gibbs 5-6
