67 - Tuscarawas Nips Jewett In Overtime 71-69 (11-26-66)








JEWETT - Tuscarawas' basketball team (2-0) continued to build momentum Saturday night when it staged a 4th quarter rally to tie Jewett then went on to notch the overtime victory.  It was the 2nd consecutive win of the season for the broncos, who didn't win their 2nd game during the 1965-66 season until December 11th.  1st year Head Coach Lyle Matlick's combination returns home for a Friday night engagement against Gnadenhutten before hitting the road to Malvern Saturday night. 

Brent Lehigh spearheaded Saturday night's triumph,  pouring in 28 points to lead all scoring.  His 2nd consecutive 20-point game this season.  His biggest of the night was a 3-point play which deadlocked the score at 59-59 at the end of regulation play.  He then registered the tie-breaking goal with 4 seconds left in the overtime to give the Broncos the victory.  John Bihari counted 18 points for Tusky, while Bob Rausch and Butch Reed added 12 each.  Nolan Hawkins paced Jewett with 21 points.  Bernie Wilson chipped in 18, Scott Samples added 11 and Adrion Tharp counted 10.  The Tuscarawas Reserves (2-0) also grabbed their 2nd victory of the season by besting the Jewett Reserves 40-31.
