61 - Tuscarawas Upsets Midvale 61-58 (1-21-61)

GNADENHUTTEN - Winners in 4 of their last 5 games, Tuscarawas Broncos (3-3) (7-6) pulled off a major upset with the win over Midvale's Blue Devils (3-2) (9-5).  And for the second straight game  it was the outside shooting of Phil Meese who kept the Devils off balance throughout the game at his guard slot.  The Junior, 2 year veteran, potted 224 big points in the victory for Coach Aaron Miller's crew while his cohort in  the back court Chet Summers added 14 points.  The Broncos, recent upset victors over both Port Washington and Gnadenhutten, rushed to a 16-7 first-quarter lead and were in  front 31-22 and 43-34 at the next halts.  Midvale rallied in the fourth quarter to knot the count 3 times before the invaders regained their poise to being in the 5-point victory.  Earlier, the Midvale Reserves (8-5) had beaten the Tuscarawas Reserves (8-4) 51-45.  NOTE:  The Midvale Blue Devils picked up a victory over Scio on January 10, but the results were not available due to the missing January 11 issue.
