61 - Midvale Rolls On By Stone Creek 74-44 (12-10-60)

Stone Creek (0-1) (0-4) had an upset gleam in its eye for the first half of its game with Midvale (1-0) (5-0) and stayed right with the Blue Devils, only to see its sparkling effort go down the drain in the second half.  The 2 teams battled to a 13-13 deadlock at the end of the first period and the Panthers were behind  only 24-19 at halftime.  But in the third quarter the Blue Devils solved Stone Creek's zone defense and rattled the hoop for 26 points, while Stone Creek could manage only 9 points.  For all intents and purposes the Blue Devils had the victory wrapped up at that point.  The Blue Devils continued to display balanced scoring and a big advantage on the boards as their main assets, prime needs for a team to be a consistent winner.  Neal Beans paced the victory with 18 points as all 5 starters gained the double figure column.  Warren Leggett was runner-up with 14 points, while Bob Byers and Walt Weaver scored 10 apiece and Mike Page 11.  Gary Endlich and Larry Stephon were the mainstays in the Panther attack with 15 and 13 points, respectively.  Midvale also enjoyed a good shooting night percentagewise.  It made 28 of 68 from the field for 41 percent, as compared to Stone Creek's 33 percent mark, tabulated on the basis of its 16 goals in 47 attempts.  From the foul line the "Big Blue" added 10 points in 15 tries and StoneCreek 14 of 23.  Midvale (302) also wrapped up the Reserve game by beating Stone Creek (0-4) 46-26.
