61 - Garaway Slows Down The Game To Get By Gnaden 40-38 (1-21-61)

GNADENHUTTEN - Garaway (5-0) (12-2) continued its slow down offensive style of play in defeating Gnadenhutten (4-2) (7-6).  The Pirates, who fast breaked their way to the District finals last season, are finding equal success with the new maneuver,  instituted this year by first-year mentor Glenn  Bower.  Bower attributes its success to the minium number of turnovers his club has come with with.  It was a tight game all the way with the Bucs holding narrow margins of 14-13, 23-20 and 32-30 at the quarter stops.  Gnadenhutten was outgoaled 17-12 by Garaway, but made up the difference from the foul line where it made 14 of 20.  Garaway connected on 6 of 9 charity tosses.  Bob Raber and Tom Andreas, both Senior veterans, paced the victory with 16 and 15 points, respectively.  Gary Dichler led theTribe with 10.  From the field Garaway made 17 of 52 for 32.7 percent and Gnadenhutten connected 12 times in 39 tries for 30.7 percent.  The Garaway Reserves (6-3) had topped the Gnadenhutten Reserves (5-6) 30-28 earlier.  NOTE:  The Garaway Pirates picked up a victory over the Hiland Hawks on January 10, but the results were not available due to the missing January 11 issue.
