61 - Freeport Edges Midvale 56-55 (1-18-61)

FREEPORT - Freeport's Red Raiders (13-0) were still the winningest basketball team for miles around today.  In a nip-and-tuck thriller before a packed house here last night, the Raiders were extended to the limit by a determined Midvale (8-4) quintet.  The Blue Devils fell behind 15-9 by the first stop, but rallied strongly in the next stanza to take a 29-25 lead at halftime.  Freeport stormed back in the third to go in front 45-44 and then held the one-point margin for victory.  Freeport outgoaled Midvale 23-15, but the Blue Devils were superior at the free throw line, making 21 of 30 as compared to the hosts' 10 of 20 charity throws.  Jim Greenwalt, 6-3 Senior, led Coach Steve Dishauzi's club with 19 points, while Junior Cal Mallarnee tallied 18.  Rick Belknap led a more balanced Midvale attack with 15 points, while Warren Leggett and Mike Page each potted 11 and Bob Byers scored 10.  Freeport lost 3 players late in the game on personal fouls, but ample bench strength held the command with Midvale losing one by the same route.  Freeport Reserves also just edged the Midvale Reserves (7-5) 48-47.
