When the County Class A tournament gets underway at Memorial Hall here Thursday night, the 36th annual meet will introduce several changes. The No. 1 innovation is the single elimination, first since 1933. Reason for that change is the presence of only nine teams what with the consolidation of Bolivar and Mineral City into Tuscarawas Valley last year and Dundee's absorption into the Sugarcreek-Shanesville school district to form Garaway. The "lose and out" play will result in one less representative for the sectional, also slated for Memorial Hall on February 25, 27, 28 and March 1. Only the county tourney winner and runnerup will be in that event. No. 2 change is in the seating capacity. There will be 50 less seats, because the first three rows immediately under the baskets have been removed to provide room for players to drive in for fielders without going into fans' laps or empty seats. In either instance there was the possibility of injuries. No. 3 change involves the coaches. Two new ones will be making their initial appearances in the county joust. Robert Heller will be at the helm of the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans. When he served as an assistant coach at Dover High, he was the official timer for the tournaments. Bill oppenheimer will be the other new tourney face. He is cage boss at Port Washington and his team is in the dubious position of playing Midvale's league champs the first night. But even with the elimination of the consolation bracket the hall is expected to be bulging every night of the classic.
