Garaway's Pirates (12-10) will play Midvale's League-Champion Blue Devils (17-2) Thursday at 7:30 and Stone Creek (13-8) will encounter Gnadenhutten (16-5) at 8:45 in the semi-finals of the 36th annual County Class A tourney at Memorial Hall. Winners of those two matches will collide Saturday night for the tourney championship and Daily Reporter trophy. Both will advance to the sectional tourney, also at Memorial Hall. Approximately 1,750 fans ignored danerous driving conditions Saturday night and jammed the hall for the second-night action in which Garaway defeated Tuscarawas Valley 43-34 in an erratic game and Gnadenhutten eliminated Tuscarawas 63-59 in a thriller. Tuscarawas Valley had decisioned Garaway 52-49 and 55-48 during the regular season and was slightly favored. But, Garaway gained ample revenge for those defeats just as it had done on Thursday night when it ousted Strasburg. Gnadenhutten had whipped Tuscarawas 68-28 and 70-29 during the regular season in which it finished second behind Midvale in the league race. But, Tuscarawas was an entirely different team Saturday, battling the Indians right down to the wire before bowing out.
