Although romping over Port Washington (1-18), Midvale (17-2) had a rough time getting started and didn't score its first goal until three minutes had elapsed. But despite some erratic floor play the Blue Devils forged to a first period lead of 19-8. Then they began to exhibit their usual good style of basketball, hitting the nets for 24 points, while holding the outmanned Purple Riders to 13 for a 43-21 halftime margin. In an effort to keep the score from bulging the first-line Blue Devils, who in regular season play had won 105-68 and 84-42 over the Riders, were replaced by the second team. It scored only 10 points as Port picked up 11 as the third stanza ended 53-32. In the final chukker, Coach Pete Hilliard's subs caught on and out-scored the Purple Riders 18-10 to waltz home. First stringers Tom Belknap and Russ Hobart along with sub Vince Denoi were the leading scorers for Midvale, as each collected 12 points. John Landon had 11 and Bill Phillips 10 for Port Washington.
