59 - New Cage Mentor At Port Washington (8-29-58)

Thomas A. Davies, coach and Foreign Language instructor at Willoughby Junior High School, has resigned his post there to accept the head basketball coaching job at Port Washington. A native of Pittsburgh, and a Waynesburg College graduate, Davies will teach Foreign Languages and English at Port Washington in addition to handling the cage coaching job. He succeeds Bill Oppenheimer, whose contract was not renewed. Oppenheimer had a 1-17 record last year, which was his first in the coaching ranks. While at Waynesburg, he was a member of the varsity basketball team for three years. He had been connected with the Willoughby school system for three years.

Mark D. Covert of Mentor, a recent graduate at Bowling Green State University, was named head baseball and track coach and junior varsity basketball coach at Port Washington. He also will serve as high school and elementary grade Physical Education instructor and will teach Biology and Health. He was a member of Bowling Green's varsity basketball and track teams.
