They will write finish to the County League Basketball race next week, but that will not be the end of the story of this year's Class B Basketball. The tournament opens at Memorial Hall February 15th and present indications are that it will be one of the most hotly contested basketball carnivals ever staged on the local hardwood. Midvale's Blue Devils are currently leading the league with a 9-1 mark and appear to have just about cinched the title. There could be; however, a stumbling block for the Blue Devils next week at Bolivar. The Cards of Coach Warren Craigo have experienced a mediocre season so far, but a win over the defending champions is a long cherished hope. Three teams are deadlocked in second place and, unless upsets eliminate them, they will finish just that way. Stone Creek, Sugarcreek-Shanesville and Strasburg hold 6-2 records. Coach Ken Newlon's Panthers invade Port Washington this week and entertain Tuscarawas next Friday. The Panthers should go through unbeaten from here. Strasburg has only Baltic and Gnadenhutten left while the Pirates meet Dundee and Port Washington. The blue Devils have Mineral City this week. Two good "darkhorse" bets in the tournament would be Stone Creek and Strasburg. The Panthers have one of their best teams in the history of the school while the Tigers moved along fast after the season opened. Midvale will find the going tough if the Blue Devils retain their tourney title.
