Bolivar's in-and-out Cardinals remain as the sole stumbling block between Midvale and third consecutive County League Baskeball Crown as the two teams prepared for the conference final Friday night on the Cards' floor. A Midvale victory will give the Blue Devils of Coach Bill French a record of nine wins against one loss in the league while Sugarcreek-Shanesville and Strasburg, if Port Washington and Gnadenhutten are disposed of, will have 8-2 marks. Coach Gerald Straley's Pirates close out the season against the Purple Riders on the Bucs' floor while the Tigers meet the Indians on the Gnadenhutten court. Tuscarawas and Stone Creek collide at Stone Creek in a battle for undisputed possession of third place in the league. Both have 6-3 marks. Dundee will attempt to improve its record in a league finale against Mineral City at Mineral City. Friday's firing will end play for most of the teams until the county tournament gets under way at Memorial Hall Wednesday night. Midvale, on the basis of past performances, is favored to take its third crown in as many years; although, the hopeful could see some chance for Coach Warren Craigo's Cards to spring the upset of the year. Should the Cardinals beat Midvale, a three-way tie could exist for first place if both the Pirates and Strasburg triumph.
