Miller pumped in four field goals in the first period and Dick Froman netted two as the Tigers broke out in front in the opening minutes of the battle. Dundee's fast-breaking attack was slowed down by the Tiger defenses and the two Bulldog aces, Louis and Loris Hostetler, were unable to find the range from out in front. Miller's 18 points paced both teams while Froman was rimming 10 markers for the Bengals. Loris Hostetler marked up eight for the Bulldogs. Bolivar, not quite up to the form exhibited in upsetting Strasburg, had difficulty with the stubborn Mineral City Tigers for over three periods, but tallied 10 points in the last three minutes to forge a comfortable margin. After the Cardinals had raced to a 17-7 lead midway in the first quarter, the Tigers railled and kept hammering away at the Card lead. The Cards led 19-10 at the close of the first period, 27-19 at halftime and 47-34 going into the last quarter. A basket by Larry Ewing cut the Bolivar lead to 59-52 at the automatic timeout, but successive field goals by Junior Geers, Bob Burkhart and Bill Willard put the game out of reach in the closing minutes. Mineral City made 20 of 27 foul shots. The battle developed into a scoring duel between Bolivar's fine center, Maurice Lundenberger, and Mineral City's great little forward, Dale Adams. Lundenberger poured 29 points through the nets for a new tournament mark this year while Adams netted 27 for the Tigers. Most of Lundenberger's points came in the first and third periods while Adams meshed his in the last half. Mineral City will collide with Tuscarawas Wednesday night in the quarter-finals of the consolation fight.

The broncos had a lot of trouble with Coach Bray Toots' Port Washington (5-13) quintet Saturday night, but prevailed in the last three minutes on field goals by Bill Tharp and Jim McPeek and a foul shot by Jerry Rausch. The game was close all the way, Tuscarawas holding a 16-9 first period lead and a 27-24 margin at halftime. The Purple Riders battled back to knot the count at 34-34 going into the fourth period and had tied the score at 44-44 at the automatic timeout period. Tharp paced the Broncos with 14 points while Bill Jones meshed 14 for the losers.
