Stone Creek Nips Port 73-72 (12-15-56)
Pouring 28 points through the hoop in the second quarter the Stone Creek Panthers (2-0)(7-2) came back after trailing 20-15 the first quarter to gain a lead and never relinquishing it throughout the contest in nipping Port Washington (0-2)(3-4). With the Panthers leading by two points and only 15 seconds to go Ben Wherley potted one of two foul attempts to give the winners a three point edge to cinch the contest. Jerry Hannahs of the losers made a layup near the end of the contest to narrow the margin to only one point, but the winners stalled the ball the remaining few seconds. Ron Deibel hit for his highest total of the yar, but didn't outshine Nick Frank of Port. Deibel tallied 13 fielders and five fouls for 31 points, but Frank also scored 31 on 10 fielders and 11 fouls. All five starters scored in double figures for the winners as Reuben Lorenz hit for 12 and Rod Reinhart, Wherley and Harold Baker each tallied 10 points. Big Ed Bates followed Frank in the scoring with 18. The Port Washington Reserves won their 3rd game of the year against 2 losses by stopping the Stone Creek Reserves 43-37.**STONE CREEK PANTHERS 73*Ron Deibel 13-5-31Rod Reinhart 3-4-10Harold Baker 3-4-10Reuben Lorenz 4-4-12Ben Wherley 1-8-10Border 0-0-0McAfee 0-0-0**PORT WASHINGTON PURPLE RIDERS 72*Ed Bates 9-0-18Jim Emler 1-6-8Nick Frank 10-11-31Denver Glazer 2-3-7Jerry Hannahs 3-2-8Don Ferrall 0-0-0Ron Phillips 0-0-0***Saturday, December 15, 1956The Daily ReporterDover, Ohio
