Blue Devils Cruise Past Port Riders 72-47 (12-4-54)
Midvale (2-0) had little trouble with Port Washington's Purple Riders (0-2) (2-3) after the opening period which ended with the Blue Devils in front by a 25-16 margin. With Bob Zontini and Larry Swinderman putting on a dazzling display of marksmanship and Ronnie Weaver coming up with a majority of the rebounds, Coach Pete Hilliard's classy Devils increased their advantage to 48-25 at half time and the outcome was never in doubt. Posting their fourth victory of the new season, the Blue Devils raced to an imposing 60-32 lead going into the final frame when substitutes began taking over. Port Washington had the upper hand 15-12 the final eight minutes of action. Only 27 personal fouls were called, 15 on the winners, and neither team lost a player because of the infractions. Zontini concluded as high scorer for the game with 11 fielders and three fouls for 25 points while Swinderman was close behind with 20 points scored on 10 baskets. Coach Bray Toot's Riders, dropping their second loop tilt in two games and third decision in five starts for the year, were led by Paul Frank's 14 points while Tom Jones and Ed Bates each had 12.
